Rhone Valley
Over the two hundred-kilometer course of the Rhone River from Vienne to Avignon, over 75 thousand hectares of land spread generous vineyards. 12 thousand winegrowers of 26 appellations here produce about 3.3 million hl of wine per year. Of these, 92% are red wines, 6% are white and 2% are rosé wines. Depending on the soil and climatic conditions, the region of the Rhone Valley is divided into two large regions - north and south. We can not say that they are competing with each other. It is better to note that they complement each other, bringing their valuable originality into the general characteristics of wines under the telling title "Côtes du Rhône."
